Tour Down Under

January 18, 2011

Today was a lovely day in the Barossa Valley- filled with job searching and catching the Tour Down Under. The TDU is an annual professional cycling race around Adelaide and surrounding areas that’s been held since 1999. As we went around doing some resume dropping, we just so happened to be stopped twice by police as the cyclists sped by. They made three loops around the Barossa that went through the towns of Nuriootpa (where Drew and I are), Tanunda, and finishing in Angaston. We had been planning to watch the cyclists finish in Angaston (a little town about 5 km outside of Nuriootpa), but were pleasantly surprised and saw more than we’d planned. If you can spot Team Radioshack in any of my photos, that’s the US team lead by Lance Armstrong. Supposedly the TDU is Mr. Livestrong’s last international tour.  Aw.

It was a gorgeous day in the Valley- bright, sunny, and not too warm. Perfect day for a 138 km (85 mi) bike ride! (That makes me want to take a nap just thinking about it…lol.) Before we went home, we got it a quick wine tasting just for good measure. 🙂

Drew and I also stopped by the best little bakery in Tanunda to get some traditional Aussie pies. Mmmm pie.
